Opinion: We are not getting enough done

By Ella Cafiero

There is a significant and annoying problem here at Canterbury and it needs to be fixed. The problem is that we do not use our time efficiently. We can have a lot more time on our hands if we did not require every single student to participate in two team sports every year. We would have a lot more time on our hands to do whatever we want such as hanging out with our friends, walking our animals, or just sitting and doing absolutely nothing. In order to fix this very big problem, we change every seat in the classrooms and replace them with chairs that have pedals on them and they act like a stationary bike. During class, students will use the bike chair during their 45-minute class every period of the day. You are allowed to relax during your free periods but with the option of going on a bike if you would like to and you’re also allowed to relax during one class period a day. You are expected to bike the whole 45-minute of the class and if you fail to meet this expectation, you will be put on a disciplinary committee and possibly kicked out.

This allows us to be able to exercise WHILE in class! This also adds more fun to the class. Instead of just sitting there bored out of our minds, we get to do something that is fun and makes us feel good about ourselves after. Instead of wasting our precious time after class, that two, sometimes three hours (if you’re on the football team) can be used for other things that will benefit our future selves. To quote a supporter of this idea, Max Mochalov, “This allows me to have more time on my hands after school to walk my cat. This is purrrfect!” Canterbury students are always very stressed out with work and still having to go to practice every single day can be hard. This is a perfect solution to this issue and makes our time in class four times more efficient than just sitting in boring class, probably dozing off because it is so boring.
